September News update
Due to holidays just a brief resume of the races Elswick runners participated in at the beginning of the month. There was a huge turnout of club members at the popular Tynedale Jelly Tea 10 Miler from Hexham to Ovingham with Lee Bennett first home for Elswick in 18th position. The day previously a number of members travelled west to run in the Keswick Trail Race. Saturday 10th September saw the Sunderland Relays being staged at Farringdon with a terrific number of youngsters from Elswick taking part. Well done to all concerned for getting the numbers to wear the Red and White, with the highlights being the third spot for AMELIA CASSIDY in the Under 13 Girls event. This was a particularly good performance from Amelia who only joined us in the last few days. Another third placing from PHILLIPA WILLIAMS in the Senior Women's race, behind two very experienced athletes from Wallsend and Sunderland. To make a trio of third placings the Veteran Mens team of LEE BENNETT, KEVIN STEPHENSON, CHRIS SANDERSON, and MARTIN CROWE collected the Bronze medals behind Tyne Bridge and Sunderland Harriers.
We also had the club represented at the inaugural Wallington 10 k event, and also in the Paras 10 at Catterick where PAUL TURNER made a welcome return to competition after injury to finish in third place.
