Congratulations to two Elswick members on being selected for England in the Cross Country international in Glasgow next month.  CHRISTINE LEE will compete in the Over 60 section, whilst ALISON DARGIE, who wins her first vest runs in the Over 35 age group.  Those of you who know Alison may be surprised that she is competing for England, but in fact was born in London.

Well done to both.

Annual General Meeting

The clubs A.G.M. took place on Friday evening -21st October at the Leisure Centre,  The attendance this year was nearly 100 per cent up on last year, which is very encouraging.  The reports from the Secretary and Treasurer were presented to the meeting and accepted.  The election of officers for the current year took place with the Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Secretary, Women’s Captain being re-elected to their various positions.  Graham Bell was appointed Mens Captain, with Rachel Bowie being

co-opted on to the committee.  A very productive meeting took place with questions from the floor.  It was agreed to hold the subscriptions at the same level, and all members are reminded that they are now due, and must be settled by 31st December.  Any questions regarding subs please contact Frank Watson at the club, or phone 07940482180.

North East Harrier League - Farringdon

The second fixture in the Cross Country league was staged at a breezy, but fine Farringdon. A reasonable turn out from club members with the first race of the afternoon, the U/13 Boys race.  Our only representative EWAN CASSIDY ran well to claim 8th spot.  The U/13 Girls followed with the club finishing 5th team through ROBYN BENNETT-16TH,RACHEL ANDERSON-18TH, MOLLY CARPENTER-24TH, and ANNA CHANNON-29TH.  In the U/15 Boys event JOE WALKER ran strongly to finish 18th with CHARLIE HOLLIDAY-38TH.  The U/15 Girls saw JESSICA RICHARDSON finish 15th, with ELIZABETH ANDERSON-16TH.  MICHAEL HALL was our our only entrant in the U/17 Mens race finishing 20th.  The U/17 and U/20 Women ran together with PHILLIPA WILLIAMS 5TH and the third U/20, and REBECCA CARPENTER finishing 24th overall.  The Senior Mens race attracted a huge field of 373 with LEE BENNETT first home for the club in 56th closely followed by KEVIN STEPHENSON-59TH. Third counter was DANIEL BALMAIN who ran doggedly to be 62nd. Other counters were MARTIN CROWE-70TH, STEVE ROBERTSON-73RD, and IAIN HARDY-114TH, PAUL TURNER running from the fast pack was 115th.

OTHER FINISHERS:

ANDREW HARTLEY-131ST, GRAHAM CHAMBERS-199TH, JASON CLARK-216TH, DAVID JARDIN-242ND, PETER SLOAN-243RD, LEE COULSON-246TH and STEVE KYTE-272ND.

The final event of the afternoon was the Senior Women which had another large field. Pride of place goes to ALISON DARGIE in 26th (5th fastest time of the day).  DEENA WHITE was 72nd, JILL BENNETT-112ND with a big improvement on her previous best, JULIE RICHARDSON-113th, and CHRISTINE LEE-146TH.

There was a good number of red and white vests on show ,with the only thing to mar the afternoon being the fact that the extra yardage added on to the Seniors course caused confusion with several athletes missing the extra loop.

The afternoon had the usual U/11 race for the youngsters to sample Cross Country with 50 runners facing the starter, with JULIETTE TAYLOR finishing in 33rd place for the club.
