Elswick Harriers Junior section is for young people aged 10-17. We have an enthusiastic group of keen runners along who are supported by friendly, knowledgable coaching staff. As a club we do try to promote all aspects of athletics, conditioning, jumping and throwing.

Come down to the club 🙂 You will meet new friends, have fun and become much fitter! The Juniors meet in the sports hall of Newburn Leisure Centre from 7.00pm on Tuesday & Thursday evenings for a 7.15pm Start. Pop down and have an informal chat with one of the coaching staff or any one of the club’s committee’s members. We kindly ask parents & guardians to make sure your child has appropriate footwear & clothing and to bring a bottle of water to each training session. Please read the club’s website header titled ‘SAFETY’. Our Juniors have competed at County level in all three disciplines including several county schools champions!  In addition, if your child (or if you know of a friend or school colleague) who is interested in athletics or other aspects of athletics such as Throwing or Jumping, then we would very intersted in hearing from them too! We look forward to you joining us here at TEAM ELSWICK!

Hello i was thinking of joining Elswick harriers but it is quite late especially for a Tuesday and Thursday for me. I was wondering is there are any other times and would like to know if its possible to have some more information on what you do exactly.
Also i would like to know if you have to have any real experience in athletics or if you can join with having no athletics experience but just want to come along to improve with fitness.

I have a 9 year old daughter, she will be 10 on june 9th (date of the Blaydon race!)
She is wanting to join a running club, i have read the information on your website and i see juniors are 10-17.
Do i have to wait until she turns 10 to come down or do you do anything for slightly younger ones or know of any clubs that do?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Good afternoon Gemma, At present the Junior section is full (with a waiting list). If I may suggest that you contact Mr. Frank Watson (Club Secretary) for an informal chat about your daughter wishing to join the club. the secretary’s contact details are on the front page of the website / right hand side column / under “we are here at Newburn leisure centre”.Thank you for getting in touch, regards, Graham Bell (Men’s Captain).

Hello Diane. The Juniors meet in the sports hall at the centre for around 7.15pm on both Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The juniors then leave at 7.30pm to take part in a session. Typically each session will last around 45 mins to an hour: This includes a warm up / the session that the coach will carry out with the group / and finally a warm down. Do keep in touch with the club for updates regarding the waiting list. Your patience is appreciated. Thank you, Graham Bell, Men’s Captain.

Hi my daughter has been in your junior running club and has had 21/2 fabulous years training with your club. She has now decided to try out other events such as long jump at another club. We would like to say a big thank you toeveryone who has helped train Raffety as she has decided to move to Tynsdale club as they offer a chance to try out other events not just running. Please could you advise us how to close membership with Elswick to be able to join Tynedale. We are grateful to all for the fun time she enjoyed at Elswick. Many thanks Julie Walker

Hello Katherine: I will feed this request back to the Junior Coaching staff and will ask if a number of juniors waiting can be published. The sessions offered to the junior groups we have at the club also do specific run / jump / throw techniques as well as conditioning exercises / warm ups and warm downs. There is a little bit more more to running than just running per say. Regards, Graham Bell – men’s captain.
