POSITION POINTS
• Up to 4 races will count for the Championships. If you compete in more than 4 races, your 4 highest scoring races will count. You are eligible to win a prize in the championships having competed less than 4 races but will obviously have had less opportunities to win position points.
• To encourage racing each other, points are awarded according to the number of participants in each category. Everyone gets 5 points for finishing, plus points according to their position, e.g.
o If there are 3 finishers from Elswick in an age category at a race then the 1st finisher will get 8 points (5+3), 2nd 7 points (5+2), and 3rd 6 points (5+1).
o If there are 10 finishers from Elswick in an age category at a race then the 1st finisher will receive 15 points (5+10), 2nd 14 points (5+9), 3rd 13 points (5+8), and so on down to 6 points (5+1) for 10th.
DISTANCE POINTS
• To encourage members to compete in a variety of distances, a bonus point will be awarded the first time you complete a race from each of the Short, Medium and Long categories. You will keep these bonus points even if the race does not end up counting as one of your “best 4”.
FURTHER RULES
• You must wear your official club vest or cropped top and be entered in the race as an Elswick Harrier. If club kit is not worn, then any points obtained from that race will be removed from the athletes points total.
• In the event of a dispute, athletes have one month (post-race date) in which ‘a dispute’ may be raised. You should put your dispute in writing and pass on to Noel Stoddart. The club will do it’s utmost to resolve such matters in a timely, fair & impartial manner.
• Athletes must be aged 18 & over before the first race in order to compete in the championship.
• If you run in a championship race you will be automatically included in the results.
• If you cannot run in the race you have entered contact the race organiser and ask what your options are. Please follow their advice and do not simply hand over your race number to a fellow runner; doing so could adversely affect overall standings in the championship and is against British Athletics rules.
• In the event of a tie, positions will be determined by looking at head to heads in all championship races the two athletes have competed in and then, in the case of a draw on head to heads, the total time taken to complete a short, medium and long race.
