Words by Alex’s mum, Susan: An update on how Alex is doing. It’s been an eventful couple of weeks for him here representing White Star. On Saturday May 20th Alex ran the 800m final in the all age group championships for the French-speaking half of Belgium at Nivelles, just south of Brussels. It was a very slow, tactical race and Alex was fourth overall. However, he was the first Junior athlete to finish and took home the gold medal in that age group (Alex pictured centre, with Gold & 1st placed Junior).
This last Saturday May 27th Alex ran an 800m at the International Flanders Athletics Meeting at Oordegem-Lede, near Ghent. With lovely hot weather and an excellent track in his favour, he ran an excellent race and was able to break his PB with a 1:51.76 (Alex pictured below – bib no.64).
Alex was hoping to run in the England U20 championships for Elswick in June but due to other commitments on the same weekend, it is unlikely this will happen. On a positive note, we will see if Alex can get a chance to run for Elswick over the summer. For now, he’s looking to improve his PBs at 400m, 1500m and maybe even 800m again – and to try for a medal at the Belgian Junior championships in September. GB Note: Congratulations to Alex on two exceptional track performances – keep up the good work and we hope to see you in the Elswick vest in the summer.
