Hello Team Elswick. On Wednesday evening (24th April) Catherine Lowes (and fellow Elswick Athletes) were competing at the NECCA 10,000 m track championships, also incorporating Northern 10,000 m track championships. The weather at Jarrow stadium were over cast and cool, with the usaul head wind in the home straight. A great night for Cath who has been in excellent form: This turned into a GOLD MEDAL winning performance! Catherine was the winner of the women’s race.

Catherine Lowes (32) in the mix and on her way to GOLD!

Silver went to Heather Robinson (Jarrow). Bronze went to Vicky Thompson (Jarrow).

She’s now Northern as well as North Eastern 10,000 m champion as both competitions were in the same race. Winners of the men’s race: Gold – Gregory Jayasuriya (Middlesbrough and Cleveland) Silver – Jordan Bell (Blackhill Bounders) Bronze – Thomas Straughan (Morpeth).

Also at the same event and in the NEGP, Junior  athlete Caitlin Flanagan ran a PB in the  800 m, clocking 2.35. Well done.

Daniel and Melissa also competed admirably as part of the Team Elswick contingency too. Well done to both athletes. Full official results are still pending…….Unofficially the results were: Catherine 42.04 / Daniel 43.47 / Melissa 49.21. Catherine incidenally PB’d for both 10 km (quicker than her road time) and 10,000 m track (which was her second outing on the track).

Well Done Catherine – Keep it going.

Cheers, GB
