Hello Team Team Elswick. The 2019 Club Championship got off to a fine start on Saturday. Here is a race report by Richard Houghton.
A sunny Saturday morning saw almost 50 Elswick Harriers (along with 800 fellow runners – making it a Newcastle Park Run record attendance) taking part in the first club championship event of the year on the Town Moor on Saturday 30th March. This was the first race with the new scoring system allowing people to score points in various age categories.
Thank you to Noel for the consolidated Club Results > Results from Race 1
The warm sun, was met with typical windy conditions on the moor, but the turnout and sea of Elswick vests dominated the scene and made us by far the most represented club at the Newcastle 5 km Parkrun.
A special mention goes to 6 first time runners at the Newcastle Park Run from Elswick, who were Richard Hudson, Kevin Hooper, Keith Adams, Kay Thompson, Emma Dance and Dawn Harman.
11 runners claimed Parkrun PB’s who were and in no particular order: Simon Mcenaney 18.49, Steve Addison 19.03, Robyn Newlands 23.01, Lee Coulson 20.11, Jonathan Rewcastle 19.35, John Ryan 24.20, Jim Ross 27.45, Jason Meecham 28.54, Hannah Marshall 24.44, Catherine Lee 20.30, Andrew Ball 17.36
Following the run, a number of us stayed for photos, coffee, cakes or breakfasts at the local café, which prompted the suggestion of a monthly away day at a local park run, where club members are encouraged to attend.
