Thanks to Tom Hanson for the scribe: Elswick’s Amy Fuller, Peter Sloan and myself (Tom) met up early and completed a good warm up. Changing into race gear we were ready. Next tactics! The race is held, based upon a handicap system. The course takes in the main stretch of Newcastle’s Quayside, an out and back course route. As I had only started training at the last race in November my handicap was good and started 4 mins up on Amy & Peter. Amy was under instructions to stay with Peter for the first half and use his pace judgement to keep her in check. As I was on the way back, both Amy and Peter were together nearing the turning point. Amy pushed on from the turn and finished up with a 19 second gap on Peter. Amy 20.04 a new PB, Peter 20.23 best time for 18 month and I came in with 23.21 much improved from last race.
