The 2018 Norman Woodcock Memorial Team Relays.

A slightly unexpected fine day awaited the athletes at Gosforth Race Course. A new event HQ at Parklands Golf Club, proved to be a very warm and welcoming place in which to host the event. With superb support from our event sponsors, Lookers Kia, Scotswood Road  Newcastle and a sold out event with over 300 athletes, spectators and many volunteers, the race was ready. (Results are highlighted in yellow, at the bottom of this report.Thank You).

Event sponsors Lookers Kia, Scotswood Road, Newcastle. Thank you to Senior Sales Exec. Steven Robertson.

Pre-Race: Leg One. One Minute to go……….
First Leg Away – The Race is ON!
The first Leg Pack Runs through and off around the 1.66 mile loop……….

The 1.66 mile loop was a very competitive one from start to finish – From first placed Morpeth to mid placed teams to teams towards the back of the race field it was superbly contested with some excellent sprinting for the line!

2018 winners and the New Trophy went to Morpeth’s A Team. Congratulations!

Within an hour the race was over – And so back to Parklands for the results. As promised at 2.15pm and to a full and expectant crowd of team athletes: The winners were announced. Frank Watson gave a speech, followed by Elswick’s Club Chairman, Harry Matthews who handed over to Morpeth’s A team: the new, Norman Woodcock Memorial Team Relay Trophy. Harry continued to hand out to all age group category podium winners their vouchers prizes. From Seniors, to V40 / V50 / and V60 – 1st 2nd and 3rd. Ken heslop

Great day perfect weather conditions, some fantastic performances from the athletes. Thanks to all the Elswick Marshall’s,organisers and officials and a big thank you to Graham Bell who does loads of behind the scenes work, without this a lot of these events wouldn’t happen. Cheers Jan & Ken

Thank you Ken and Jan….but it really is a team club effort to put this & our other race events on.
To ALL the event helpers today:
I thank them all. Cheers, GB.

Iain Hardy

I can only echo the words of Ken n Jan,
The athletes turn up to run,the spectators turn up to support, the marshals turn up to help n direct, the race officials turn up to officiate.
Yes members of the club help where they can but it’s all down to the meticulous organising of Graham Bell.
Take a bow Sunna.
