While many were pounding the streets of Tyneside in the Great North Run, Mark McNally was hitting the streets of New York by taking part in the 5th Avenue Mile. The event attracts some of the worlds finest athletes who are looking to tear down the streets of Manhattan. The 22 one-mile heats featured age-group races for runners as young as 8 and as old as 90+, wheelchair races for youth and adults, and speciality heats for NYPD/FDNY and media, as well as five shorter Rising New York Road Runner events for children ages 2–10. Four invitational races featured professional runners from around the world as well as the NYRR Road Mile Championships for top-level local runners.
Taking 1st place in the men’s V70-74 category was our very own Mark McNally in an impressive 6:01. It’s great to see Mark getting back to winning ways after his nasty fall and resulting injury during the Coastal Run in July! Very well done Mark!
Winner of the men’s race was Great Britain’s Jake Wightman in 3:53:5 and claiming her 7th victory in the women’s event was Jenny Simpson from the USA in 4:18:8.
