Newburn River Run. Event report & results.

A warm, overcast evening awaited 292 runners for the 2018 Newburn River Run. A new start line for competitors. Runners make their way on the footpath adjacent to the river, towards Wylam and finishing on the grounds of the Newcastle University Rowing Club (thankfully the Hurricane Hector held off!). Post run, runners enjoyed a complimentary supper pack and the age group awards took place in a packed out function room. Congratulations to all the runners taking part, we sincerely hope you enjoyed your 6 mile run. Taking the two main prizes: Morpeth’s Jane Hodgson won the women’s race in 35.37 and retained the Hazel Simpson Trophy. Tyne Bridge Harriers Tom Charlton, won the men’s race in 30.30 and received the new Colin Bolton Trophy. This new trophy is in recognition for the club’s standout servant to the club: A 60 year club member, the coach, the athlete, the treasurer, a true gentlemen.

Well done to both winning athletes. Enclosed below, are the results your your perusal. These should be uploaded to Sportsoft’s data base by Friday.

Hello Alistair, Thank you for getting in touch. There was not “an official” photographer per say for this event.I’m certain there would have been spectators taken a few photos on their phones out on the course and for the presentation. Sorry the club cannot help on this occasion. Maybe it is something we could look into for the 2019 event – where it will be the club’s 130 year anniversary. Best Regards, Graham Bell (Men’s Captain).

Carl Mowatt

just to say well done to all who marshalled and organised a great event.\Ive not done this event for some 20 years but now back on the local athletics scene I will be planning it in my diary for next year, and bring some fellow runners from South Tyneside. A lovely run and great facilities and loved to supper packs, especially as you catered for Vegans. Well done again Carl Mowatt South Shields Harriers AC.

Graham Bell

Hello Carl Thank you for getting in touch. It appears the event was well received and makes the efforts of all concerned worthwhile, to make the run a safe and enjoyable event for everyone taking part. Please do place the run in your diary as it will be the club’s 130 year anniversary, and we hope to “add” a little bit extra to the event. Yes the supper packs went down very well – out of the 360 packs purchased we had exactly 2 cheese sandwiches left over! Not a bad guesstimate at all….and I’m pleased the vegan salad boxes were enjoyed by those runners taking part too. See you all in 2019!. Best Regards, Graham Bell (Men’s Captain).
