Track & Field Seniors at York University.

Thank you to Cath Lowes for the report (and tired legs!)

The first fixture of the season  took place at University of York on Sunday 19th May.

The composite team was a bit light to say the least but with eight competitors we gave it a good go and tried to get as many events covered as possible.

Over the past 4 years have enjoyed competing and co- ordinating the Track and Field season, this has given me the opportunity to have a go at most events. I admit I’m not the best at the field events or the shorter track races. The first fixture and a full on day in the sun I managed to take part in 6 events – 800m, 400m, shot putt, discus, 1500m and the javelin.

The first 800m and 400m weren’t my best and legs felt heavy. Luckily I had a break in the timetable before my next race so managed to have some Jaffa cakes for some energy. I put on my spikes and off I went to the 1500m the sugar kicked in and off I went. Running strong from the front and gaining a lead I won the race with our fellow Blaydon teammates cheering me on from around the track. Just shows you can’t be good at everything but I won’t let that put me off. Just put it down to a good bit of training!

Unfortunately we lost points in the relays as we had incomplete teams. Results will follow as the results have not been processed yet due to technical difficulties within the new portal.

If anyone is interested please let me know and dates for the following fixture –

Sunday 16th June @ Wentworth Leisure Centre, Hexham

Sunday 14th July @ Churchill Playing Fields, Whitley Bay

Sunday 10th August @ Monkton Stadium, Jarrow

You don’t need to be there all day, just an hour or two. To help take the pressure off my tired legs!
