Thank you to Ken Heslop for the report on the 2019 Morpeth 11 km Road Race.

On the first day of 2019, a small contingent of Elswick Harriers saw in the new year, by travelling up to Morpeth to take part in the Heartscan sponsored road race. In what is an unusual distance of 11 Km nearly 200 athletes ran round the streets of Morpeth. Former Elswick athlete now running for Gateshead and a top tri-athlete Calum Johnson won the race fairly comfortably in a time of 33.05. In second place was Morpeth athlete, and last years winner Ross Floyd 34.27, followed by club mate Thomas Straughan 34.33.

In the Ladies race first place went to Stephanie Pattinson Jarrow and Hebburn in a time of 40.55 and 21st overall.Next up running for the host club was Catriona MacDonald 41.48 and 27th overall. In an excellent 3rd place and first veteran lady was our very own Judith Nutt in a time of 42.14 and 31st overall.

Also having fine runs and running for Elswick were the following athletes. In 20th position was Richard Houghton 40.53–136th Steve Curry 54.27- 154th Jeff Emerson 56.41-187th Mel Reed 63.42-191st Amanda Jane Kennon 64.28. Well done to all who took part in a very well organised event on a fine day for running.
