01.01.2018: Morpeth 11km Road Race & Belated Boxing Day Parlaufs!

The Boxing Day Parlauf class of 2017

Happy New New Year Team Elswick! Pesky critters infiltrated the club’s website over Christmas, but thanks to Andy Middleton for putting things right, a few words can now be scribed (and photos) to yesterday’s 11 km race in Morpeth and also a look back to the club’s Boxing Day Parlaufs:

Time to GO GO GO! The Parlauf Start Line!

The Morpeth 11 km New Year’s Day Road Race: Around 170 or so runners took part in this popular New Year’s Day Event. The rain held off and turned out to be a pleasant afternoon in the market town. From the gun starting the race on Dogger Bank, athletes made their way towards the village of Mitford, a ‘cheeky climb up’ towards Whalton Road and then downhill towards Morpeth where the finish line in the park awaited the runners. Morpeth AC Athletes dominated their home race, taking the first four places.

Leading the race out & back Morpeth AC Harriers leading the way out towards Mitford.

Taking the win in the ladies race, was Morpeth’s AC, Jane Hodgson. Morpeth’s Catriona McDonald was 2nd and Alnwick Harrier’s Rachel Fallon was placed 3rd. Taking the 4th place overall in the ladies race and first V40 female title, was our very own Jude Nutt in 43.36. Congratulations Jude (and Jude also ran 18 miles the day before!). First Elswick gent home was Dave Armstrong in 42.15. Well done Dave. Next home for the club was PC guru! Andy Middleton in 47.59 (a PB).  Next across the finish line were athletes Mel Reed & Jeff Emmerson in 61.41 & 63.30 respectively. Well ran gents. All the results can be found on the Morpeth Harriers Website.

Going back a few days, around 14 pairs of Team Elswick Runners took part in the club’s Boxing Day Parlauf Run. The rain held off and turned out to be a pleasant day ‘down by the river’. All fun & laughter before hand followed by a competitive run out by everyone…… a few coughs and splutter towards the end of 8 laps of anaerobic running mind!  The winning team of Martin & Steve pipped second placed Iain & Rowan on the line! Back to the Keelman for a well deserved cup of tea, a buffet, a quiz (with winners Jackie & Yvonne) and prize giving for the parlaufs. Thanks and appreciation to Frank, Michelle, Jim, Martin and the Keelman staff for enabling the parlaufs to be yet another successful lung busting morning!

The scrutineers, officials & Place recording folk! Frightening or what!
Rowan F-L-Y-I-N-G! (Team Bennett ran down to Newburn, ran the Parlaufs and then ran back home!)
