Thanks to Cath Lee for the report & photos. The combined team pulled together as numbers were a little depleted from Blaydon due to English schools being on the same weekend. This gave us a chance to try some new events and even got Martin Connelly returning to competing in the Steeple Chase after many years, taking it seriously he went out and bought some new spikes …unfortunately he DNF but well done for giving it a go!
Mary and Sarah put their muscles to use and competed in shot put and discus – well done ladies! Elspeth made her season debut along with Bella in the 800m, then Bella went on to a PB in the javelin and then got the team some points in the high jump too. Chris competed in the 400m and 1500m, Joanne in the 3000m and myself in the 1500m. Paul with Shaun coming to the rescue and stepping in at the last minute taking part in the shot put, and then competing in the 5000m too.
Man of the match has to go to Ben, not one to let the team down! Taking part in the 800m, triple jump, high jump, 100m relays and 400m relays.
The team finished 5th on the day and the next fixture is on Saturday 5th August venue TBC. If anyone is interested please see Ben and Mary as they will be co-ordinating the final fixture. Let’s get as many events covered to maintain position and secure our spot in the league (Nice pen Ben!)
Tuesday 11th will be 10 mins strides followed by 2×1 mile, everything is starting at the seat mile marker.
