Phil on Live TV

The final day of the World Trials and U.K. Championships were held at Birmingham, with all of our members watching with great anticipation to see the red and white of Elswick Harriers featured on live national TV

PHIL HURST certainly did not let the club or himself down with a gutsy performance which saw him grab 5th position in the 1500 Metres.

The race was grabbed by the scruff of the neck with Nick McCormick setting off at a blistering pace, which he paid for in the later stages.  Full credit to him for his efforts which enabled Phil to come through the field in the later stages to record 3:44:14, and to be 5th behind a super performance from James Shane who ran a superb P.B.  Phil has over this weekend moved into another league and acquitted himself well.  His performance was great credit also to coach Martin Crowe who has put so much effort into Phil's training schedule.

Morpeth 10k Road Race

This midweek race has always proved popular, but exceeded itself with a record number of finishers-368.  In near perfect conditions the result was never in any  doubt with Exhibition Park winner Yared Hagos leading from the off to come home in 30:47.  Elswick were using this event as part of the club championship, and 18 members took part, with LEE BENNETT first home in 18th spot-36:04, although Lee would admit his preparations at the weekend were not the best with a 14 mile training session!  IAN FENWICK was 39th-38:12, MARK McNALLY-46TH-38:33, JASON CLARK-47TH-38:41, with YAM THIRU-67TH-39:50.

This popular race was staged in the Watergate Country Park in near perfect conditions with 126 runners facing the starter.  Yarod Hagos was once again a runaway winner to continue his plunder of North East events this year, Yarod gave another outstanding performance to record 14:38.

Juniors also perform at the Watergate 5k

Our kids turned out in force for the Watergate Junior event with all age groups having an Elswick vest in it.  Jessica Richardson finished 2nd in the girls u15's race and James Potts was 3rd in the boys u13's, both winning Start Fitness vouchers.

Robyn, Matty, and Robert swelled the u13's with Georgia & Charlotte being our racers in the  u11's category.

All were all given participation medals, free socks & chocolates and all helped to make it a great night for everyone.

Tartan Games

Our only Elswick athlete, 8yr old Charlotte Richardson, made the 60m u11 final taking 3rd place in her heat (9.86) but she was dwarfed in the final by much stronger & older girls from all over the North East and her 9.94 time got her a creditable 7th place finish at the Tartan Games.  Well Done Charlotte!
