Presentation Night

The presentation night was held at Newburn Activity Centre on the 9th April with the club members turning out in good numbers.  A family evening which seemed to be enjoyed by everyone, with the awards being presented by coaches, Martin, Tony and Colin.  Music was provided by Bob Wilson, an excellent buffet supper was also provided, and a music & general knowledge quiz made the evening go well.

Paul Turner triumphs in the Sand Dancer

Amongst the growing number of races in April, mention must be made of the performance of PAUL TURNER who won the Sand Dancer race at South Shields, running a time of 34:40 over the 10k course.

Rising Sun Success

Following his win at the Sand Dancer, Paul then finished in 2nd spot the next weekend in the Wallsend Harriers Multi Terrain event recording 27:42 over the 5 mile course.  A double success for the club in this event with JUDITH NUTT 1st Woman, 19th overall in 31:53

Good Friday Road Relays

The club then hosted the popular Good Friday Races at the Newburn Riverside Park, again courtesy of ONE NORTH EAST who generously allowed us to use their building as the race H/Q.  The main event, the Seniors/Vets Relay attracted over 40 teams with Morpeth Harriers once again winning the McConnachie Cup in a new course record time.  Ian Hudspith won the Alex Burns Cup for the fastest time of the day in a time of 10:33, with Terry Wall running the fastest lap for the Vets in 11:36.

The Women's race was won by Sarah Wilkinson of Morpeth in 12:24, with ALISON DARGIE running a fine race to gain the bronze position in 13:08.  The youngsters events had reduced fields from previous years apart from the U/15 Boys.  Thanks must go once more to all the club members who rallied round, marshalling and providing refreshments to make the day most successful.  A special word to Bill Todd from Wallsend Harriers who manfully provided the results on the day, this is not an easy task when relays are involved!

North Tyneside 10k

On Sunday 24th April the North Tyneside 10k took place on the coast with a massive field of over 1600 finishers.  PAUL TURNER once again first Elswick finisher in 12th spot in 34:15, with ALISON DARGIE taking the second Women's place in 38:35.  OTHER CLUB FINISHERS:

London Marathon

GRAHAM BELL recorded 2 Hours 50 minutes in the London Marathon, and STEVE KYTE ran well achieving a P.B. of 3 Hours 11 Minutes.  The club was also represented by -
